About 3

3 (or Three) is a major cellphone company that operates in many countries, including the UK, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Sweden, Australia, Austria, and China. It's actually owned by Hutchison Whampoa, and operates as separate businesses in each international market. 3 Mobile provides 3G and 4G services through its own network infrastructure (in contrast to the MVNOs that make up much of the UK's mobile phone sector. Three mobile launched back in 2003 in the UK - on 03/03/03 for promotional reasons, although handsets weren't actually available until a month or two later.
